Superintendent's Message

A Message from the Superintendent of Schools

My, how time flies.  This administration is entering its fifth school year.  Each year, we have gone up a degree in our effort across the learning community and have much evidence of success.  Our committed students, dedicated teachers and staff, and involved families are going to raise that an extra degree again this year.

The 2010-2011 school year finds us fortunately with a balanced budget.  Our belts have been tightened as much as possible so that our students will receive a great learning experience.

Ware Public Schools is fortunate our K-12 music program is continuing and growing stronger.
The elementary technology readiness program will continue with all students in kindergarten through grade three having and opportunity to receive computer instruction in the lab from a certified teacher.  Speaking of technology, the University of Phoenix donated 80 new computer tables, chairs, and numerous computers.  Our maintenance department was busy this summer adding permanent walls in the junior high instructional area.  These will improve the sound barrier and consequently reduce distractions for the learners.

Dual enrollment and advanced placement courses at the high school are in increased demand, so we have increased our offerings.  Listening to our consumers, we are seeking approval to forge co-op agreements with Palmer and Pathfinder so we may provide opportunities for students to join both swimming and wrestling teams.  Both elementary and middle schools will be back to having a full-time assistant principal, which will allow even more home school contacts and increased instructional focus on bullying and other social, emotional aspects of growing up for our students.

We are excited to begin another school year.  With the continued support of the Ware community at large, the efforts of our school committee, and the hundreds of volunteer adults that work with us each year, we intend to stay focused and improve by one degree because, “At 211 degrees, water is hot.  At 212 degrees, it boils.   And with boiling water, comes steam.  And with steam, you can power a train.  One extra degree makes all the difference.” (Sam Parker author of 212: The Extra Degree)

Respectfully,

Mary-Elizabeth Beach
Superintendent
